The Membership Team welcomes newcomers, invites them to participate in the life of SVES, and supports them as they become part of our community.  The committee connects all members to the many opportunities for building relationships, enjoyment, and service.  Its purpose is to make the path to an active and engaged membership obvious and gratifying for all and to keep members informed about ways to participate in our community.

The Welcoming Team:
Greets new and returning visitors to SVES.
Ensures each visitor has a name tag, including children

2nd Sunday "Living Ethics Discussion Group" Facilitator Team:

We discuss to understand, not to convince.

This is an opportunity for small groups of people to thoughtfully consider important ethical/spiritual issues, and to practice interacting with one another in ways that bring out the best in each other. It is also an opportunity for participants to practice two important skills for engaging with others: group facilitation and group participation.

To make the most of these opportunities, it is strongly recommended that the role of Facilitator be a shared role - that is, that a different person facilitates each session rather than having the same facilitator from session to session. Rotating the facilitation promotes a more democratic process for the groups as each person gets to experience facilitating and experience being in a group facilitated by someone else.

We find that rotating the facilitation encourages participants to appreciate the value of facilitation as well as appreciate the skills that promote effective facilitation. Doing so also helps participants monitor their own participation in the group and promotes a group culture in which each person’s contributions are valued and the tendency to monopolize the sharing or to avoid sharing are lessened considerably.

3rd Sunday "TED Sunday" Team
Topics to Enlighten & Discuss and inspiring service to our communities

The TED Team helps to bring inspirational topics to our 3rd Sunday gatherings each month. These presentations can take many forms such as TED Talks, inspirational poetry, music, readings, articles, art, etc. This is also an excellent opportunity to bring community together to work on projects inspired by these presentations.

Secular Ethical Education for Kids - SEEK Team:
The SEEK Team helps to develop and promote all of the educational offerings for children and teens.
The SEEK curriculum is built to reflect ethical core values. The goal is to provide children with skills and knowledge to help them make ethical choices and learn to respect the inherent worth of every human being. Children are encouraged to respect and learn about themselves and their environment and to examine how their own ideas and actions impact the greater world.

Lessons are developed to aid with the exploration of the Children's Ethical Core Values through books, discussions, reflections, music, and hands-on activities.

It is fundamental to our mission as a multigenerational community to ensure that we have excellent programming for children of all ages.
Programming for children and teens is something that attracts individuals and families to the our community.

Ethical Action Team:
Ethical Action is an expression of our core commitments:

  • to honor the worth of all people
  • to cultivate relationships
  • to build justice

The SVES Ethical Action Team promotes and coordinates actions and events between SVES and our surrounding communities that contribute to building a more humane world. In this way the Ethical Action Committee provides opportunities for the personal ethical growth of our members, and for enhancing the ethical grounding of our public systems and institutions.
