The Ethical Society is financially supported by voluntary contributions from its members and friends.
We trust the integrity of individuals to decide upon the amount of their annual contribution of money and/or personal service based on their own means and abilities. If you are looking for a guideline, it is best to speak to a member of the Board of Directors. We love to hear the stories about how SVES has made a difference. Experiences and insights are invaluable in showcasing the heart and soul of our Society.
Rebecca's story:
In my short time with the society I have enjoyed our conversations on culture, current events, religion, and life in general. Newly retired, I needed to find new ways to be a part in something. Helping others was a big part of that need. Therefore the society’s efforts to help people feed their families and themselves is very fulfilling. I hope to continue in this effort long term. All of the members have big hearts and listening ears. It is a very welcoming environment and sharing in a good laugh now and then is truly the icing on the cake. In my search for like minded people and non religious organizations, I was thrilled to read about SVES on Facebook and instantly looked into how I could be part of it. I would also like to add a thank you to all members for a warm welcome. Gathering at the No Kings protest was probably my highlight so far. I look forward to upcoming gathers and helping to plan more for 2026. Why I Belong
Nancy K. I have been a member of the Susquehanna Valley Ethical Society since the first organizational meeting at Cherry Alley Cafe in the fall of 2016. Having chosen to separate from a lifetime of traditional church, I was looking for a community that focused on charitable work. I found it with SVES, a freshly founded chapter of the American Ethical Union right here in Lewisburg! I was warmly welcomed and I soon learned that their message of acceptance, personal growth, and doing good in our valley was a good match with my personal values. It has been very satisfying to be part of the evolution of the society as it grappled with how best to utilize the time and talent of a small but growing membership. We have realized much success seeing through a number of projects benefitting our neighbors as well as assisting other non-profits in their work. Last summer we provided a free picnic meal and grocery supplies to all who attended. Coming up in March we will be hosting a soup bowl meal that includes taking home your own bowl, some of which will be hand thrown and painted. Our main focus has been on food insecurity. It is very rewarding to know that the Little Food Pantry in Mifflinburg is helping to feed and provide household supplies to a number of less advantaged clients who visit regularly. The Susquehanna Valley Ethical Society always wants to know “how can we help”? It’s a great feeling of purpose to work with others to find an answer to that question! |
