The Susquehanna Valley Ethical Society [SVES] was founded in September of 2016 and made its first public appearance in October of the same year. On January 21st, 2017 SVES was established as one of the 20+ societies across the nation and just the second Ethical Humanist Society in Pennsylvania, the Ethical Humanist Society of Philadelphia being the first. Now under the affiliation of the [AEU] American Ethical Union the Susquehanna Valley Ethical Society has acquired 501(c) 3 status as well as the ability to provide the necessary programs that encourage and support Ethical Living and Ethical Action in the Central Susquehanna Valley.
Our Society meets on the first and third Sunday of each month at the Lewisburg Hotel, located at 136 Market Street in Lewisburg, PA.
On 1st Sundays we gather for Platforms (also known as Sunday Meetings, Sunday Program,
or Platform Services). These gatherings are
intended to educate, stimulate personal growth, inspire reflection and action, and build a sense of community.
What is Colloquy?
On 3rd Sundays from 10:00am to 11:00am we meet for Colloquy, a time for shared reflection. Together participants explore a theme that may include the use of music, readings, parables, and art. The purpose of colloquy is to inspire participants, in a communal setting, to develop practices of self-reflection and deep listening. Not a debate, not an advice forum, and not exactly a discussion, colloquy is a time to share thoughts and feelings on selected topics that can help us live our lives in more awareness and congruity with our values.
We invite all to join us for food and fellowship after all platform and colloquy gatherings.
