Susquehanna Valley Ethical Society is a congregational humanist and non-theistic organization. Without reference to the supernatural, we are guided by the best human thinking in the areas of ethics, science, and well-being. Individuals of all beliefs or non-beliefs, are provided a warm and welcoming environment for belonging, for learning, and for practicing humanist-living, seeking ways for being together to make humanist-life possible and enjoyable. We support and respect personal autonomy and diverse perspectives.
We understand that finding belonging in a Beloved Community and doing good with and for others enhances our well-being. Strengthening our practice for Beloved Community is ongoing and essential to our growth. We believe that our guiding principles and ethical core values leads to better community.
How do we do this?
Our Living Ethics Discussions are held the 3rd Sunday of each month and they provide an opportunity for connection and conversation about ethical action in our daily lives. Some of these exchanges are based on controversial topics, while others offer participants a chance to explore personal ethical dilemmas and seek encouragement, advice and/or resources. We listen with empathy and hold space for each other in the absence of telling others how to live. There is no singular way to live ethically, and we are free to adopt our own values.
New to 2025 is Circles of Humanity. (1st Sunday of each month) Circles of Humanity are opportunities to be human with each other and to experience the humanity of others. Our purpose is to build connections and community, to recognize our differences and commonalities, and to learn about ourselves and each other. We each share our reflections on our feelings, ideas, and actions, and we each listen to understand the feelings, ideas, and actions of others.
We have something unique to offer folks and building this community to be a place for all walks of life (and for all generations) to learn and grow together through shared values, doing good, and nurturing the human spirit is our mission.
