COMMITEES
We thrive because of the dedication and skills of our members. As a self-funded, lay-led community, we rely on the enthusiasm and talents of each individual to keep things running smoothly. Your contribution is invaluable!
We believe that many hands make light work, and we encourage everyone to volunteer in ways that suit their unique talents and interests. Whether you're passionate about event planning, skilled in communication, or have a knack for finances, there's a place for you here. We're excited to see how you can get involved and share your gifts!
Our Committees
Here's a glimpse of the committees that help our community flourish. If one sparks your interest, please reach out to learn more about how you can contribute!
Programming Committee
Plans and organizes events and activities for the SVES community. This committee identifies and communicates with guest speakers that support our mission and serve as the basis for our reason for existing as a Humanist congregation. Tasks include coming up with ideas, reaching out to potential speakers, sharing information about us with them, and vice versa, organizing logistics with them, and thanking them afterward.
Responsibilities:
Sunday Program Host Committee
This group shares the task of acting as emcee on Sunday mornings from 11:00 AM - 12:15 PM. Typically, each host serves 2 or 3 times per year. They speak at the podium from a script, sharing opening words, introducing a musical selection, sharing our guest speakers’ bio, and sharing announcements at the end of the presentation.
Membership Committee
Focuses on welcoming new members and supporting existing members.
Responsibilities:
Care Committee
The Care Team helps members who are facing difficult circumstances. This involves sending greeting cards, providing meals, transportation to medical
appointments, emergency child care, etc. The team communicates via email and does not typically meet in person.
Social Committee
This group plans social events throughout the year for adults and families, alike. Typically, this includes once-a-month luncheons, quarterly vegan pot-luck
parties, as well as additional ways to have fun.
Ethical Action/Social Justice Committee
This committee seeks out opportunities to help the Lewisburg and surrounding communities in a variety of ways. Ethical action/social justice are some of the ways we express
our beliefs. It is an expression of our core commitments to honor the worth of all people, cultivate relationships, and build justice.

We believe that everyone has something to offer. Your skills, interests, and enthusiasm can make a real difference in our community. Don't hesitate to reach out and explore the many ways you can get involved. Together, we can create a vibrant and thriving congregation!
